About Farnborough

Farnborough is a town in northeast Hampshire, England, and is part of the Rushmoor borough and the Farnborough/Aldershot Built-up Area. Farnborough was established in Saxon times and appears in the Domesday Book of 1086. The name is derived from the Latin word ferneberga, which means “fern hill.” Farnborough has a population of 57,486 people, according to the 2011 UK Census. The Farnborough Airshow, Farnborough Aerodrome, Royal Aircraft Establishment, and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch are probably the town’s most well-known associations. Farnborough is located in northeast Hampshire, near the Surrey border. The Blackwater River forms part of the boundary. It is 34 miles (55 kilometres) southwest of London and 16 miles (26 kilometres) east of Basingstoke, directly south of M3 junction 4. The town is located in the Blackwater Valley conurbation, which also includes the towns of Aldershot, Camberley, Yateley, Sandhurst, Frimley, and Farnham.

Farnborough FC (previously Farnborough Town FC until 2007) is a Southern League Premier Division South club. Farnborough Town FC rose to national prominence in 2003, when they reached the fourth round of the FA Cup, where they faced the previous season’s Cup winners Arsenal at Highbury. They were supposed to play the tie at home, but due to police advice, the location was changed. The game was won by Arsenal 5-1. Farnborough FC won the British Gas Business South and West divisions, as well as the Hampshire Senior Cup, which they lost to Basingstoke.
