Cheshunt is a town in the Hertfordshire Borough of Broxbourne, entirely within the London Metropolitan Area and Greater London Urban Area. The area is located on the River Lea, Lee Navigation, and the New River. Broxbourne is located on the town’s northern outskirts. Epping lies to the east. Its southern and western boundaries are formed by Waltham Cross and Goff’s Oak, respectively. Cheshunt is the most populous town in the borough of Broxbourne, with a population of 45,832 according to the 2011 census in the United Kingdom.
Cheshunt is home to Cheshunt F.C., who compete in the Isthmian League Premier Division. Iain Dowie, who played for them in the 1980s, was their most famous player when they were founded in 1946. The town also has long-standing rugby and cricket clubs, as well as a public 18-hole golf course. Tottenham Hotspur have had training grounds in Cheshunt for many years. Cheshunt’s best-known son is the pop singer and actor Cliff Richard and the town was also home to the band Unit 4 + 2 whose song Concrete and Clay topped the UK charts in 1965. UFO drummer Andy Parker was born in the town in the 1950s. The popular underground band Neils Children, originate from the town.
