About Motherwell

Scottish Premiership team Motherwell FC is situated in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, and competes as a professional football team. Since 1985, Motherwell has not been relegated from Scottish football’s top division, although throughout that period they have only won one trophy, the Scottish Cup in 1991.

Since 1896, Motherwell has played its home matches at Fir Park Stadium while donning its iconic claret and amber uniforms. Due in part to their near physical proximity, Hamilton Academical and Airdrieonians have always been the club’s biggest rivals. The Lanarkshire derby refers to these contests.

The club has four significant domestic football championships to its name: the Scottish League title in 1931–1922, the Scottish Cup in 1951–1952, and the Scottish League Cup in 1950–1951.

Brown aided the team’s fifth-place SPL result and European qualification. The team participated in the Europa League during the 2010–11 campaign, defeating Breidablik and Aalesunds before falling to Odense in the Play-off round, preventing them from progressing to the competition’s group stages. On December 10, 2010, Brown left Motherwell for Aberdeen. His successor was announced to be Stuart McCall. The club advanced to the Scottish Cup Final this year but lost to Celtic by a score of 3-0.

South-east of Glasgow, in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, the town and former burgh of Motherwell is home to the Motherwell FC football team. It has about 32,120 residents. North Lanarkshire Council’s administrative centre is in Motherwell, which was once in the parish of Dalziel and a part of Lanarkshire.
