The market town and civil parish Macclesfield is located in the English county of Cheshire East, under the unitary authority of Cheshire East. It is situated on the banks of the River Bollin in the county’s easternmost region, on the eastern end of the Cheshire Plain, with Macclesfield Forest to its east. It is 16 miles (26 km) south of Manchester and 38 miles (61 km) east of Chester.
Macclesfield was possessed by Edwin, Earl of Mercia, and valued at £8 before the Norman Conquest. The Domesday Book refers to the manor as “Macclesfield,” which means “Maccel’s broad country.” Around the present-day St. Michael’s Church, the mediaeval town developed on a hilltop.
In Macclesfield, Cheshire, England, there is a club dedicated to association football called Macclesfield Football Club. It is a phoenix club of the previous Macclesfield Town F.C., established in 1874 and disbanded on September 16, 2020, as a result of a High Court decision. In August 2021, the team started its first professional season in the North West Counties Premier Division, the fifth tier of the National League structure.
