About Gravesend
Gravesend is a town in northwest Kent, England, 21 miles (35 km) east-southeast of Charing Cross (central London), on the south bank of the Thames, opposite Tilbury in Essex. It is the administrative centre of the Borough of Gravesham and is located in the Diocese of Rochester. Gravesend’s geographical location has given it strategic importance throughout South East England’s maritime and communications history. It is a Thames Gateway commuter town with strong links to the River Thames, including the Port of London Authority Pilot Station, and has seen revitalization since the introduction of High Speed 1 rail services via Gravesend railway station. The station was recently renovated, and a new bridge has been installed.
Ebbsfleet United F.C. plays at the Stonebridge Road football ground in Northfleet, which changed its name from Gravesend and Northfleet F.C. in June 2007. Ebbsfleet United currently competes in the National League and won the FA Trophy in May 2008.
