Kidderminster History
The Domesday Book of 1086 has the first mention of the name Kidderminster (Chedeminstre) in writing. William I had a sizable property with 16 neighbouring communities (Bristitune, Fastochesfeld, Franche, Habberley, Hurcott, Mitton, Oldington, Ribbesford, Sudwale, Sutton, Teulesberge, Trimpley, Wannerton and Wribbenhall). Up until the name of the town was resolved as Kidderminster by the 16th century, it was known by a number of spellings, including Kedeleministre or Kideministre (inside the 12th and 13th centuries) and Kidereministre (13th–15th centuries). Henry II gave Manasser Biset, his steward, the land between 1156 and 1162. Sixty years later, as the community expanded, a fair (1228) and then a market (1240) were built there.
